One of the best parts of what I do is looking at the financial settlement in the round.  Yes, I can add a lot of value just looking at the pensions but often the pensions are a subset of a what is happening in the wider settlement.  With offsetting as an option often thought needs to be given to whether this represents good value.

It is extremely important to review the whole settlement and understand how each – income, housing (including any mortgage debt), savings, investments and pensions – works together and whether the final outcome will work for you.

This is my favourite part of the work I do.  Spending time looking at all the options, working through solutions and then reflecting on them to make sure that they will work for both parties and that one isn’t overly prejudiced and that if a compromise has to be made it is understood.
